Rene Jose Rivera

Rene Rivera, age 60, passed away on March 17th, 2024. Rene was born January 30th, 1964 to Elvira Mathias in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He attended James Garfield High School where upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force. After his enlistment he found his true passion with the Fort Bliss Fire Department. He dedicated 26 years of his life serving and protecting his community. He retired in December of 2013 with the hopes of spending more time with his family and fishing, but the desire to serve pulled him back to other Firefighter positions until shortly before his passing.

Rene did not have just friends, he had family. He was generous and compassionate with all those he held in that regard and would do whatever he could to help those in need. He enjoyed baking and would often share those treats with his family and coworkers. He was a devoted son and brother and spent a large portion of his semi-retired life in New Mexico to be closer to his family.

Rene is survived by his mother, Elvira Mathias, sisters, Elvira Toca, Erica Rivera, and brothers, Rodolfo Rivera, Luis Rivera, and Jesus Rivera as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other family. His passing is gravely felt by all who knew and loved him.
