Refugio "Cuco" Gomez, was a proud veteran of The Vietnam War and a longtime resident of El Paso. A warrior throughout his life, he was 74 years old when he departed peacefully at home on July 11, 2023.
Cuco was born April 22, 1949, in El Paso to Maria Esther Gomez. When he was just 18, Cuco decided to join the Army and would go on to serve in The Vietnam War. After serving in Vietnam, Cuco married Maria Eugenia Cervantes.
The Lord has called upon our loving brother, husband, father, uncle and friend. He was a man with a big heart, full of joy and life. We will miss his Vietnam images and stories about what he went through while serving our country. Cuco will be dearly missed by all who knew him. However, we find comfort knowing that he is resting in peace where there is no more pain and no more sorrow.
Cuco was preceded in death by his mother Maria Esther Gutierrez, infant daughter Maria Esther Gomez, sister Ysela Sanchez and nephew Sgt. Hector A. Cervantes.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Eugenia Gomez and his daughter, Sara Eugenia Gomez. He is also survived by his brother Johnny Gutierrez and sisters Millie Hernandez, Julia Moreno, Lily Torres, Patsy Talavera as well as numerous nieces, nephews and honorary granddaughters, Eloisa and Arianna Shivery.
