It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Ramon “Tweety” Sandoval, Sr. He passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024, at the age of 77 surrounded by his loving children. He was a remarkable man who was loving, caring, and cherished every moment spent with his loved ones.
He was born in El Paso, Texas on December 31, 1946. He briefly attended Bowie High School but graduated from Bel Air High School in 1965. He worked for the Texas Department of Human Services for 27 years as a Caseworker until his retirement. He then worked as a contractor with the Texas Workforce Commission as a Workforce Development Specialist for another 10 years. He helped many in the community find employment.
Every Tuesday you could find him having lunch with his friends from school, “The Breakfast Club’”, at Martita’s Lunchbox. He loved sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, and the Boston Celtics. He loved his old cowboy movies, watching Good Morning America, Blue Bloods, The View, and SportsCenter on ESPN. But most of all he loved playing and coaching softball with his senior softball teammates and friends, the El Paso Nine-Elevens. Even when he could no longer play, they still made him feel like he was a part of the team. This team won many senior tournaments, including Tournament of Champions 2006 (Tucson), Winter Worlds 2010 (Las Vegas), Tournament of Champions 2018 (Florida), and Winter Worlds 2020 (Phoenix). But what he really enjoyed, more than anything in the world, was watching all his children and grandchildren play sports, no matter what it was.
Our father is preceded in death by his loving parents Salome G. and Eulalia M. Sandoval, his beloved sisters Margarita Sandoval, Lilia Sandoval, Alicia Ramirez, Connie Rocha and his beloved son, Jason Sandoval. He is survived by his daughter Vangie Sandoval (Paul), sons Ramon Sandoval, Jr., Rene Sandoval (Melissa), Michael Najera (Gabby), and Joey Najera (Nora), sister Marie “Pee Wee” Mier and brother-in-law Kiko Sandoval.
He is survived by his beloved grandchildren Andre Sandoval (Crystal), Denae Sandoval (Angel), Alex Nanez (Blanca), Sierra Nanez (Nicole), Audrey Sandoval (Amara), Sophia Sandoval, Aure Sandoval, Olivia Sandoval, Leah Najera (Jesse), Amber Najera (Marlo), Crystal Najera, Freddy Najera, Joey Najera (Carly) and Brittney Malave (Christian). He is also survived by his beloved great-grandchildren Elliott Sandoval, Jason Nanez, Ellianna Sandoval, Violet Franco, Sage Franco, Salem Franco, Mia Capps and Elias Malave as well as countless cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A rosary will be held for our father on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with the recitation of the Rosary at 6:00pm at Martin Funeral Home East, 1460 George Dieter Drive, El Paso, Texas, 79936. There will be no burial as it was our father’s wishes to be cremated.
