Maryfrances Stewart, age 74, of El Paso, Texas passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2022, due to Alzheimer's disease. Mary was born February 1, 1948 in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, to Mr. Loren Francis Stewart and Mrs. Goldie Floy Stewart (nee Simons). Her father's duty with the army effected a worldly childhood for her, with postings in Stuttgart and Taipei, before they returned to the states, living in Richland, Washington; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and finally El Paso. Mary graduated from Irvin High School in 1966 before moving to Denton to attend Texas Women's University, but she soon returned to El Paso, and remained for the rest of her life.
She attained bachelor's and master's degrees from UTEP while working for several years at UTEP and EPCC and teaching briefly at Canutillo Middle School. After graduating in 1979, she began teaching at Loretto Academy, where she stayed for more than a decade, while simultaneously earning a second master's degree in counseling. Her career as a counselor with EPISD began in 1990 and lasted until her retirement in 2017, including jobs at the Hondo Cottages, Irvin High School, Coronado High, Henderson Middle, and finally Morehead Middle School. She worked many 11-hour days trying her hardest to ensure the futures of the thousands of kids for whom she cared, and if she'd had her druthers, she would still be doing so today.
Mary is survived by her husband, Patrick McCombs Ebert; her daughter Lauren Stewart-Ebert; her son Andrew Stewart-Ebert; and her brothers Raimond Edward Stewart and Loren Prescott "Scott" Stewart.
Celebration of Life will be Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N. Resler Dr., El Paso, Texas 79912.
