Maria Norma Montellano, 64, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2017 in the presence of her loving family. She was a graduate of Bowie High School, Class of 1970. She later attained her BA degree in Political Science and Mexican History from UTEP. In spite of her multiple illnesses, she had a great appreciation for life. She was witty, feisty and very opinionated. Norma was a person of strong faith and was a tireless advocate who was outspoken and fearless. She was involved in numerous causes for the betterment of humanity and her community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfredo and Celia Montellano. She is survived by her sister Sally (Joe) Ojeda and brothers Freddy (Lupe) and Danny Montellano, several nieces and nephews; Michael J. Ojeda, Melissa (Abe) De Los Santos, Michelle (Cris) Lopez, Kristine, Aidan, Naya, Sebastian and Layla. Special thanks to the entire staff in East and West Sierra hospitals, and Trisun Care Center. Our sincere gratitude to Dr. Belgrave, Dr. Patel, Dr. Armendariz, Dr. Gonzalez and Dr. Demick, whom all treated Norma with love, compassion, dignity and respect. We will forever be grateful.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 26th from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Kaster-Maxon & Futrell Funeral Home, 8817 Dyer Street with Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, February 27th at 10:00 am at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 408 Park Street. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park.
