María Luisa Chávez de González passed into eternal life surrounded by her children on Sunday July 10, 2016 at the age of 96. She was a devoted mother, loving wife, doting grandmother, and proud great grandmother. In the past, Maria Luisa worked at Southwest Bell Telephone Company, American Smelter Company, Civil Service, as well as Army and Navy Recruiting. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Abraham González Vargas, M.D. She is survived by her daughters, Dr. María Luisa González-McNeil, Ph.D. and Ana Wiggins, and her two sons, Dr. Abraham González, M.D. and Judge Alex González; daughter-in-law, Dr. Sylvia González, M.D. and son-in-law, Dr. Keith McNeil, Ph.D.; granddaughters, Kiti Rawlins Morales, Alejandra González, Sofia González, grandson, Abraham González, Junior and grandson-in-law, James Morales; two great grandchildren, Davian and Isabelle Morales. She was loved by her many nephews and nieces as well as her five
grand-pups, Canela, Chico, Koko, Kaya, and Pee-wee. She left this world a beautiful example of her life filled with grace and wisdom alongside memories of unconditional love, endless humor, and heartfelt compassion for others. As an accomplished artist, she left countless pieces of her beautiful artwork.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 15, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with a Rosary at 7:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home West. A Mass to Celebrate her Life will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 1:00 PM at St. Matthew’s Church. The family will hold interment privately at a later date. A special thanks to all who loved and cared for our Mom, including Alicia Balsach, Natalia (Nati) Sanchez, her homebound physician, Dr. Martha Manquero-Butler, the El Paso Hospice staff, Nurse Irene Reyes and Sister Betty Keegan, as well as her tireless team of caregivers Hilda, Lucy, Yvette, and Marina.
