Maria “Coco” Atienzo , born Maria Del Socorro Hernandez Diaz passed unexpectedly January 29, 2023. She is survived by 2 sisters; Margarita Pozos (Rudy Pozos) & Hilaria Husted 2 daughters; Sonia Montoya & Haydee Atienzo, 5 grandkids; Carlos Hernandez (Rebecca Peña) & Veronica Fraire (Marco Fraire) Odalys Hernandez & Anali, Nadia Garay, 3 great grandkids; Izaiah, Ezra and Noah Hernandez and 1 cat Leo Atienzo. She was preceded in death by her mother , father , brother and sister.
Coco was born in Ignacio Allende, Durango Mexico and grew up in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua Mexico. She came to the US at the age of 30. Maria learned English as a second language and you could often hear her say, “What is that chet ?” She loved gardening and growing plants. She loved animals and it never surprised anyone when she came home with an adopted shelter dog or cat. She loved everyone and everything.
You could always find her pressing her luck at the casino, and boy did she have the magic touch. Most importantly though she loved spending time with her family in the comfort of her home. She never held back from speaking the truth and reminding everyone that they have gained weight. Her words of wisdom and knowledge will remain with us everyday. Everyone confided in her and seeked her guidance in life situations. A self made medicine woman, aloe Vera and manzanilla were the answer to everything. You never disagreed with her as she knew best.
Mari, as others called her, remember her as a social butterfly - the life of the party. Life was her party with no rules - she was the true meaning of free spirited. She enjoyed making others laugh and never turned down a shot of Buchanan’s. Mari worked for Toro Company for 31 years and was loved by all. Always with a bright smile on her face and a helping hand around work, Mari was embraced by everyone.
The people present at her services and those who pay their respects from afar are a testament of the life she created the 75 years to the day, she lived on this earth.
A visitation for Maria will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Evergreen East Funeral Home & Cemetery, 12400 East Montana, El Paso, Texas 79938. A vigil service will occur Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 7:00 PM, 12400 East Montana, El Paso, Texas 79938. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at 9:30 AM at Most Holy Trinity Catholic CHurch, 10000 Pheasant Road, El Paso, Texas. A committal service will occur Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Evergreen Cemetery East, 12400 Montana Ave, El Paso, Texas 79938.
