Marcos Rodriguez born June 22, 1933 in El Paso, Texas, passed away quietly on March 16, 2011 with his loving wife of 45 years, Olga Rodriguez, and their son at his bedside. Marcos was a proud Bowie Bear and graduated in 1951. He earned his Bowie letterman’s sweater in track. Marcos answered his country’s call to duty, serving in the U.S. Army from 1953-55 and rising to captain in the Reserves. Marcos was a proud Texas Western Miner where he earned his bachelor’s degree (1958) and his master’s (1960). Marcos was a talented artist, gardener, bowler and golfer and won numerous awards over the years. Marcos dedicated his over 40-year professional career to educating youngsters and served El Paso as a teacher, counselor, and assistant principal (including at his beloved Bowie High School and beloved El Paso High School) until he retired. In professional and personal life, he encouraged all those around him to believe that they could achieve anything they set their minds to, and he emphasized that education opens myriad opportunities. His eternal optimism, courage, fearlessness irrespective of adversity and his zany “Chevy Chase” style of humor will be sorely missed.
Marcos is survived by his wife, Olga Rodriguez a retired teacher, their son, Rey Rodriguez an attorney, along with spoiled Maltese dogs Sophie and Gracie (“Chiquis”).
