Luis Garcia – Retired Army Master Sergeant, passed away on January 14, 2024, at the age of 82 in El Paso, Texas. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grampa, great-grampa, uncle, godfather (nino) and friend.
He was born in Pharr, Texas, on February 21, 1941, the eldest of six brothers. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was awarded two Bronze Star medals for Heroism in Ground Combat and Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations Against Hostile Forces, an achievement he was very proud of. He was also awarded several medals of commendation and achievement. He retired honorably after serving in the Army for 22 years.
He was a very humble and generous man with a silly sense of humor who gave to others unconditionally. It didn’t matter if he had known you all his life or if you were someone he had just met. He would find a way to help you and made sure no one went without. There are so many stories that exemplify his generous heart and kindness. He took pride in the fact that he was always surrounded by so many whom he loved and cared for his whole life.
He is preceded in life by his mother, Genevive Garcia, his father Juan Garcia; his brothers, Juan M. Garcia, Jose R. Garcia, and Gilbert Garcia.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Carolina Garcia, whom he met while stationed at Ft. Bliss. He is survived by his children: Luis A. Garcez, Mario Garcia, Albert Garcia, Rachel Garcia (Cindy Weiland), and Luis David Garcia. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Albert Timothy Garcia (Trisha Sloss), Dominique Bautista (Manny), Audrey Garcia and Laura Newis and great-grandchildren Sophia, Allyson, and Madelyn Bautista. He is also survived by his brothers Rene Garcia (Gloria) and Daniel Garcia.
