Lucille Rosen Garcy passed away on Monday night. She was the most vibrant, brave woman you could know. Lucy was born in Frankfort, Germany in 1926 to Paul & Rosa Rosen. She was the widow of Donald Kenneth, to whom she was married for 54 years. Lucy was the younger sister of beloved Henrietta Heller. They came to this country on a boat in 1934. She earned a BA in English at The College of Mines (UTEP) & a MA in Education at Columbia Teacher's. She married Donald. The couple move to El Paso & began a life of excitement, educational inquiry, travel, &, most importantly, cultivation of civic duties & lasting friendships.
Lucy was a long time schoolteacher, served as President of Hadassah & was active in NCJW & Sisterhood. She swam, danced, exercised, & played bridge. Her greatest joys were her family and friends-Etta Mae, Helen, Marion, Hilda, Irene...this kept her vibrant after Don died; her friends were like sisters. Her surviving children are Laura Sohm, Annie Garcy, & Pamela Clifford. Her grandchildren are Yori , Ross , Michael, Matthew, Brittany, Ethan, & Max. Her 2 great grandsons are Darin and Zayden. Lucy loved her nieces and nephews so much -our sorely missed Maurice Heller, survived by Cheryl Heller, Claire Pulner, Jackie Weidner, & Leonard Heller.
Graveside service will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 1:00 PM at B’Nai Zion Cemetery.
