My beloved wife, Lucy Murphy Contreras, passed away peacefully during the evening of Monday, June 10, 2024, at the age of 88. Lucy was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. She attended and graduated from Ysleta High School in 1954. She married her husband, Jesus Contreras, a Chief Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and after 24 years of service they decided to retire in El Paso, Texas where their extended families resided.
A devoted wife and mother of 2, Lucy loved to travel, and her vacations took her throughout the United States. Many of her visits were to Seattle, Washington where her son, James, lives and allowed her to spend time with her grandchildren. Other places she traveled to and enjoyed were Niagara Falls, Yosemite, The Magic Worlds of Disney in California, Florida, Michigan, Ohio and Mexico City. Lucy loved Las Vegas and visited there frequently; enjoying the shows, the buffets and of course the slot machines
Lucy was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. As a deep believer in her faith, Lucy would pray daily for her family and others at a grotto of the Virgin Mary built adjacent to her home.
At times a working mother, Lucy had various stints as a bank teller and as a receptionist at various businesses and doctors' offices. A beautiful person with an even greater personality and smile, Lucy always had time to listen to people and it was this great personality that seemed to always get her the jobs she applied for.
Lucy is survived by her husband, Jesus Contreras, her son James and his wife Heather Hauberg Contreras, and their children, Jacob, Kayla, and Taylor. She also had a son, Arthur J. Contreras who passed away in 2012, and a deceased grandchild, Richard Contreras. Lucy is also survived by a brother, Charles Thomas Murphy and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces (most notably, Rebecca, JoAnne, and Irene Garcia) all of El Paso.
We would like to give our sincere thanks and appreciation to David and Deborah Talavera, Olga Camarillo and to my sister-in-law, Connie Contreras, and family, for the wonderful support they have given us during these hours of our greatest need.
The family would also like to extend our thanks and gratitude to the CCU-N nurses at the Sierra Campus of Providence for the wonderful and loving tender care they gave my wife while she was under their care.
Visitation will be held on Monday June 24th from 5pm-9pm with a vigil at 7pm at Funeraria Del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave. El Paso, Tx 79903.
