Mrs. Lois Anne Holt passed on to her eternal life on October 15, 2022, in El Paso, at 88 years old. Lois Chorlian was born in Boston, MA, on August 29, 1934, and grew up there. She earned a degree in Physics at the all-women Simmons College in downtown Boston in 1956. That year she married Dr. Ernest Howard Holt, a recent immigrant from England. They met and married at Park Street Church in Boston. They began their married life first at the University of Illinois and then in the 1960s at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. Their three children were all born there in that decade: Elizabeth, Timothy and James. Due to Lois’s struggling lung health, the family moved to the dry, warm climate of El Paso in 1968. When she felt the El Paso sun at that time, “She knew she would make it.” Lois’s primary passion was raising her three children and being the rock of the family household, and that she was for her 54 years in El Paso. Her
second greatest passion was music, and she was church organist for many decades at several area churches including First Presbyterian Church and Center Chapel One on Ft. Bliss. She gave organ recitals over the years and played funerals for many, from privates to generals. She loved plants and gardening, several Dachshunds over the years, all things British, and her love of and hope in Jesus Christ. In her last years she lived a simple but satisfied life at home right to the end of her life, being sustained by her three children. She is survived by her brother David; her three children; and three grandchildren Anna (Dawson), Jeffrey, and Jenna. Her husband of 59 years, Howard, preceded her to glory in 2015. The funeral service is 11am Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at the Church of St. Clement, El Paso. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be directed to the Armenian Missionary Association of America (amaa.org).
