It is with a sad and heavy heart that we announce the passing of our sister, wife, mother, aunt, and friend Leticia (Letty) Esperanza ( Espy) Terrazas. Letty, age 72, took her last breath on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at her home in the arms of her husband and surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Espy was born in Sisoguichi, Chihuahua, Mexico & came to El Paso, Texas with her parents when she was 3 years old and became a lifelong resident. At the age of 23 she met and married the love of her life Manuel (Manny) Terrazas, and together they raised two sons Manny Jr and Gabriel. They recently celebrated their 48th year of marriage.
Letty was a 1971 graduate of Bowie High School and after contemplating for several years to pursue her career dream in nursing, she went to El Paso Community College and earned her Registered Nurse degree and RN Certification. Her passion for caring was felt by the many patients she cared for at several hospitals but found it especially compelling working as a hospice nurse for over 30 years before retiring.
Espy enjoyed movies, music and loved spending time with her family and friends. She lived a full and fulfilling life and her sharp wit and pearls of wisdom will be greatly missed by all who had the glory of knowing her.
Letty was preceded in death by her parents Segismundo and Guadalupe Gonzalez, and brother Manuel Angel Gonzalez.
She is survived by her husband Manny Terrazas, sons Manny Jr. and Gabriel; sisters Cristina Gonzalez, Irma Gonzalez, Alma Cardiel (Fred), Norma Zenk (Klaus); and brother Segismundo Gonzalez (Diana); nephews & nieces Manny Gonzalez Jr, German Velarde, Pati Velarde Burnett, Jose Velarde, Luis Gonzalez Jr, Angela Cardiel Ferrell, Sophia Cardiel, Freddy A. Cardiel III, Adam Alecknavage, Danny Alecknavage, Nick Zenk, Anaid Gonzalez, and Diana Gonzalez; and grand-nephews & grand-nieces German Velarde Jr, Alex Velarde, Cristina Burnett, Michael Burnett, Esteban Gonzalez, Jaxon Aguilar, Nicklaus Zenk, Gracie Bondurant, Isabel Alecknavage, and longtime family friend Ray Velarde.
Our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Enhabit Hospice and special thanks to RN Shayla Scott for their support and guidance they provided our Letty and grieving family.
