I will always have great memories of my big brother! We had great times growing up in south Texas. We played outside a lot with our cousins and friends those were the days. We had many great talks as well as we grew older. I will miss him very much but I know he is in heaven along with his wife, our parents and the rest of our family and they are having a great time with our Lord Jesus. The Spectrum Technologies Family has suffered a great loss with the passing of Len Olsen.  Len was a man of the highest character and personified a life that was impactful to those around him, both professionally and personally.  Len took great care of his customers and his company in his daily work, but had the heart and love for his fellow co-workers to impart biblical truth and grace us all with amazing gospel songs to end our weekly bible studies.  Our company is a far better place for having Len as one of our leaders for nearly 15 years.  We will miss Len more than words can express.

Photo Shoot --- 

Leonard was also on the yearbook committee which produced the yearly school annual. I had been involved in starting a new musical group called New Scene.  In those days it was unheard of on the campus for anybody to be singing modern folk music using guitars and bass violin. We actually were able to take our music to public high schools in the area. We would present our music and then give our testimony about our trust and believe in Jesus Christ. It was a great way of outreach as a college student to the local community.  Leonard came to me and asked if he could make a photo shoot of our group to put in the yearbook that year to report a new a new activity on campus. I said yes and so the group gathered down at the Toccoa Falls location Leonard directed the photo shoot with a year book photographer. Those photos were eventually put into the yearbook.

It was just a couple of weeks ago that we came across the picture that was used in the yearbook. It brought back such great memories of my friendship with Leonard during my college years. I learned from reading on face book that Leonard was in the hospital.  I am so thankful that 17 days before Leonard died I was able to call him and we reminisced about our times together in college. We talked about our “Pat “ conversation.  He also said that as he looked back on his life he was so thankful for all the blessings that God had given him during his life.  It was a great time to talk with him one last time.


Cutting the wedding cake ---

Leonard Olsen was asked to be in a skit at the talent show on the campus of Toccoa Falls College. Leonard came up with probably one of the best short funny skits of the whole night of the show. They decided that Leonard and Lucy Tu would come out as a married couple having just finished the wedding ceremony. Lucy Tu was a Chinese student on campus. They then walked out on stage to the ceremony of cutting the wedding cake. He looked down at her with loving eyes and she responded by looking up at him with her lovely expression.   As you know Leonard was very tall probably close to 6 foot five inches. Lucy Tu was very short probably under 5 feet. She was a very quiet girl and not very verbal or demonstrative in her personality. And so very sweetly he looked down at her and said,  “Honey please cut the cake. “ The expression on her face changed, she raised up her right hand high over her head and with a very loud voice yelled out and her hand cut down through the middle of the cake with the finest karate chop you have ever seen. Cake pieces went everywhere. With that they both bowed for their performance and walked off the stage. The audience was surprised and happy and laughed for a long time before the next act could come on.   That was one of Leonard’s finest hours.


Deep Conversation ---
Leonard Olsen was one of the best friends I had during my college years. I had stopped dating a girl and was now sitting with Leonard in my room and can you believe it, making a list of possible girls I could date. As we went through the list we talked about each one and finally when I got to Pat Damron’s name I looked at him and said , “I think if I work real hard I can get a date with Pat.” He looked back at me and just started to laugh. I said, “Leonard you don’t think I can get a date with her?”  I said, “you just watch me tomorrow make a big move on her. “  So  we closed our talk and laughed. The next morning I went out and met up with Pat in the middle of the campus. She looked at me and said , “Gordon do you notice anything different about me”. She was fixing her hair and prepping her clothes. I answered her and said, ”No I don’t see anything different.” With that she raised up her left hand and showed me a diamond that was on her ring finger. I was devastated because I had missed my chance to “make my big move.”  

At the end of the day after attending classes and working I return to the dormitory and met Leonard. I said in astonishment to him,  “Did you hear that Pat got engaged? “He looked at me and just started to laugh. Then I realize the joke was on me. I said to him, ”Did  you know last night that Pat was already engaged?’ Leonard  said,“ yes” with a big smile.

 As soon as I got back on campus after the Christmas break I found out that that she had broken the engagement. I quickly went to her office where she was working and I asked her out on a date six weeks in advance. And now you know the rest of the story.


Leonard was good man, a godly man who was kind and generous -
I will always remember singing with him in the choir and the joy that brought him - he blessed more people than he knew; he certainly blessed me.
My prayers are with you all for peace and comfort and one day, we'll have that precious heavenly reunion - we hold fast to that hope and promise.
