It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Laura E. Martinez, who passed away on April 2, 2025, in El Paso, Texas, at the age of sixty-seven. Laura was born on March 24, 1958, in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico.
Laura married the love of her life, Victor Martinez, on February 10, 1978. Laura was a devoted member of the Neocatechumenal Way, finding deep meaning and community in her faith. She also cherished her work as a schoolground monitor for the El Paso Independent School District, where she brought joy and care to the students. She also studied English, history, and government civics, culminating in her successful naturalization. Her kind spirit shone through her smile and infectious laughter. She loved hanging out with her sisters and shopping for gifts for her loved ones.
Laura is survived by her beloved husband, Victor Martinez Sr., her children: Ana Shepherd her husband Kasey and their children Ethan, James, and William Shepherd, Victor Martinez Jr. and his wife Ella Martinez, and Melissa Martinez her significant other Oscar Rubio and her children Sabrina Nuñez, and Leonardo Nuñez. Her sisters Maria Medina, Marialuisa Sanchez, Elvia Rodriguez, Liliana Delgado, and her brothers Juan Lorenzo Sanchez, and Jose Sanchez.
She was preceded in death by her parents Maria and Jose Sanchez and her sisters Nelly Avalos, Rosario Sanchez.
A visitation for Laura will be held Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Hillcrest West, 5054 Doniphan Drive, El Paso, TX 79932. A rosary will occur Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 7:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Hillcrest West Funeral Home, 5054 Doniphan Dr., El Paso, Texas 79932. A funeral service will occur Friday, April 25, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at St. Jude Catholic Church, 4006 Hidden Way, El Paso, TX 79922. A graveside service will occur Friday, April 25, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Restlawn Memorial Cemetery, 8700 Dyer St, El Paso, TX 79904.
