Kay A Mooy, born in 1947 in Anderson Indiana, the eighth child of Shafter and Alta Lester. Her academic ability was recognized at an early age and was selected for all gifted and talented classes. She was selected for a pilot program in Indianapolis in Arsenal Technical High School where she was enrolled in honor classes and graduated in 1965, receiving a General Motors Scholarship to Purdue University.
Kay married Bruce W. Mooy in 1967, it was at this time where she transitioned from being a scholar to a mother and a wife. She followed her husband through his military career for 20 years and took college courses in Washington, Kentucky, and Massachusetts. She completed her Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral degrees from the University of Texas at El Paso with highest honors. Kay continued her love for education teaching college courses in rhetoric at UTEP. Among Kay’s many accomplishments included her position as president of the UTEP Alumni Association and was named Alumnus of the Year for Arsenal Technical High School in 2015.
Kay is predeceased by her seven brothers and sisters, her mother and father. She is survived by Bruce W. Mooy (LTC)- Husband, Bruce E.
Mooy-Son, Diana Y. Mooy-Daughter-in-law, and her adored grandson Bruce Austin Mooy. The family will be holding a private ceremony to remember Kay. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to any of the three Mooy Family Scholarships at UTEP or the Salvation Army.
