James Hunt, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord, February 1, 2021 at the age of 92. He was born in Riverside, California to the late Albert and Lillian Hunt, and preceded in death by older siblings, David and Ruth. He trusted the Lord as his Savior at the age of 9. He especially enjoyed the years living in Ocean Beach with his family. After moving to Portland, Oregon his senior year of high school, he attended University of Oregon where he earned his BS of Architecture degree and became a lifelong Oregon Duck. While in Eugene, he met his loving wife, Evelyn, and they were married in 1951. He served in the military as a Nuclear Assembly Specialist during the Korean Conflict. He completed his service at Fort Bliss. Jim and Evelyn remained in El Paso, where he worked and they raised their family, Tricia, Jim and Janie.

Jim had some interesting jobs designing churches, schools and commercial buildings for Monroe, Licht and Higgins. He was the Resident Construction Manager at the UT System overseeing the construction of several buildings at UTEP and the McDonald Observatory in Fort Davis, TX. Later Jim served as a City Building Official for the City of El Paso. During retirement he enjoyed owning & operating The Scripture Bookstore. He came out of retirement to manage a large officer housing project at Ft. Bliss.

Jim enjoyed serving at Grace Chapel as a distinguished elder. He loved serving the Lord, sharing God’s Word and the good news of the gospel. He was one of the founding fathers of SWBC in Glenwood, NM where he designed plans for and helped build several buildings for campers and staff, was on the SWBC Board and attended most camp activities. He was an active member of Gideon’s International, distributing Bibles. He was a featured speaker Sunday mornings on KELP for the Bible Truth Broadcast radio program.

Jim enjoyed traveling, jogging, swimming, basketball, horseshoes and especially fishing. Because of his healthy, active lifestyle, he participated and earned many awards in the Senior Games. He was inducted into the Senior Games Hall of Fame in 2017. Jim was known for his humility, integrity, leadership, service and love for God and his family. He was greatly respected and loved by everyone. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him especially his family and friends.
