Genaro Hernandez, loving husband and father of four children, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2021, at the age of 79. Genaro was born April 13, 1941, in El Paso, Texas, to Efren and Belen Hernandez. He graduated from Bowie High School in 1960 and served his country in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964, when he was honorably discharged. He joined the El Paso Police Department in 1967 and retired in 1993.
On April 1, 1967, he married Yolanda Hernandez, and they raised their three sons. Genaro was an amazing father not only to his children, but also acted as a father figure to so many others. He was a great provider, ensuring his family was taken care of, even until the end. He had a special way to let you know you were loved and cared for. He set a good example to his sons for how they should live, personally and professionally. He found humor in the most difficult of times and will be remembered and missed by his family and friends.
Genaro was preceded in death by his father, Efren; his mother, Belen; his sisters, Celia and Irene; his brother, Efren; and his daughter, Cynthia.
He is survived by his wife, Yolanda; his three sons, Jerry, Rene and Orlando; his brother Jaime; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A viewing and rosary will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N. Carolina Dr., in El Paso, Texas.
