Florentina (Tina) Emilia Lopez, 87, died in her home in El Paso, Texas on July 11, 2021 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Tina was married for 40 years to Raul Lopez, Sr. Together they had seven children whom they raised in the Segundo Barrio of El Paso before moving to the Lower Valley.
Tina was preceded in death by her husband Raul Lopez, Sr., her son Juan Lopez, and grandson Jeffery Carrasco, great- granddaughter Lilly Ann Fontenot, mother Margarita Campos, tia, tio Maria & Tobias Guzman and sister Herlinda Rodriguez. She is survived by her children Raul Lopez Jr., Margarita L. Alonso, Ernestina Lopez, Cruz Lopez, Isauro Gilberto Lopez, and Lorenza El Kik. Tina was blessed with a large family of 20 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
Tina was born in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico to Margarita Campos and Enrique Bernal. She later moved to San Juan de Los Lagos with her aunt Maria Guzman and uncle Tobias Guzman. At a young age, Tina helped with her aunt’s seamstress business where she learned embroidery, knitting and sewing. Tina would share this craft and hobby with her daughters as a form of expressing love.
Tina was a devout Catholic her entire life. She celebrated religious traditions of Mexico by setting a large nativity display in her home. Her nativity display in the Segundo Barrio became part of the community during the holidays.
Tina followed in the steps of Jesus Christ by helping others. She committed more than 30 years of her life to charity and public service. Tina devoted countless hours to educational programs for indigenous and at risk youth, Ysleta Lutheran Mission, Fr. Martinez Senior Citizen’s Center, Corpus Christi Church, among other organizations. The City of El Paso and State of Texas presented Tina with awards for her volunteer service.
Tina will be most remembered for her fearless and independent spirit, which led her to fulfill her dreams of traveling the world. At the age of sixty, she began to travel with the Corpus Christi Catholic Community and Fr. Wilson Cuevas. She made multiple visits to sacred destinations in Greece, Turkey, Israel, Germany, Egypt, Jordan, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Czeh Republic, France, and Mexico. Travel enriched her life with memorable experiences she shared with her family.
Join the family to celebrate the life of Tina at Hillcrest Funeral Home at 1060 Carolina Dr, El Paso, Texas 79915. Visitation will be held on July 20, 2021, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Reverend Karl Heimer will lead a memorial service starting at 6 p.m. and a rosary will follow. The funeral service will be held on July 21, 2021. Mass will be at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9205 N. Loop Dr., at 11 a.m. with her burial following at Mt. Carmel Cemetery at 401 S. Zaragoza Rd., at 12:30 p.m.
