David L. Rivera, age 76, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents: Henry D. and Clara V. Rivera; brother: Frankie and sister: Mary Ellen Makelky. He is survived by his brother: Bill Rivera (Margaret), and sisters: Alice Coleman, Peggy Hendrikx and Rosie Moniz (Ray) of El Paso; Theresa Dimick of New Braunfels, TX. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
David graduated from El Paso High School where he was a member of the choir and marching band. He worked for the Diocese of El Paso for several years. His strong devotion to St. Francis, led him to study in New Mexico to receive his Simple Vows in the Franciscan Order. Although he was not able to continue in the order, his humble spirit and passion for helping others remained an integral part of his character. He then moved to Colorado where he resided for 30 years. During this time, he worked for both Marriott and Sheraton Hotels. He then worked for the Richie Center of the University of Denver for 4 years before returning to El Paso.
David had a lifelong love of art and music and enjoyed dancing. He found beauty in life’s simple moments and encouraged us all to do the same. Most of all he loved his faith and being with family and friends. He will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to El Pasoans Fighting Hunger or the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Raphael parish.
Our family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Sonia and Celia from Camino Hospice and to Maricela, Abby and Marissa for the loving care they provided to David each day during his stay at Casa de los Abuelos.
David, a beacon of unwavering friendship and kindness, has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
