Charles (Charlie) Edward Doolittle, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 27, 2022. Charlie was born on February 5, 1933 in Charleston, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents Anna and Cletus Doolittle Sr., brother Cletus Jr., three sisters Anna Doolittle, Barbara Doolittle and Genevieve Doolittle. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol; daughter, Cathy Jones (Bobby) of El Paso, TX; son, Charles M. Doolittle (Laura) of Bedford, TX; siblings Lt. Col. Richard Doolittle (Loretta) of Papillion, NE; John Doolittle (Linda) of Wildwood MO; Bob Doolittle (Barbara) of Tulsa, OK; Rose Wilson (Tom) of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren Michael Montoya (Diana) of Flower Mound, TX; Caitlin Jones of Dallas, TX; and two great grandchildren, Audrey and Jacob Montoya of Flower Mound, TX.
Charlie served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. He then attended St. Louis University and graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Although Charlie had several roles within his 28-year career at El Paso Natural Gas, his last role was that of project manager in which he managed multimillion-dollar pipeline expansion projects. He officially retired from El Paso Natural Gas (EPNG) in 2002 after 28 years of service, but continued to work for several years as a consultant. Prior to his employment at EPNG, he served as a project manager for Raytheon Corporation.
Charlie was a humble leader both to his family as well as to his colleagues at work. Charlie also served his local church diligently over the years. He was very involved in the Gideon International ministry, which is an organization that strives to place a Bible into all people’s hands around the world. His past leadership roles include: President of EPNG Toastmasters, President of EPNG Retirees, and President of Gideon’s El Paso camp.
Charlie loved spending time with his family and especially his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He lived a life that pointed others to Christ. He loved and served with words and actions. Charlie was an example to all of us of how to serve others in a Christ-like way.
Charlie traveled extensively throughout the world while working as a project manager for EPNG. The stories he told were always riveting and kept you on the edge of your seat. But God saved the best journey for Charlie on December 27, 2022. That journey took Charlie to heaven and into the waiting arms of Jesus.
