“When I die, I am going to be all smiles with the Lord because He has made me the happiest little lady on earth. My children, remember, when I am not here anymore, I will be with you in spirit. I planted and I harvested. Carry on. Most of all, this little great grandmother wants you to be good people. If you don’t do good, don’t do wrong. You are unique, and I love you very much. May the Lord speak and answer for you, and may He bless you and keep you, and may He show his face upon you. Be a happy girl; be a happy boy, with God in your heart. May He give you strength, peace, and health. Salud, pesetas, y Dios en su corazón. God Bless America!” Celia Hornedo Gonzalez
Our amazing 103 years old happy viejita went to our Lord on July 26, 2017. She had 5 children, Achilles (Mary), Norberto (Cristina), Alex (Rose Mary), Celeste (Joe Blot), Basilio (Priscilla), 13 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Her siblings were
Dr. Manuel Hornedo, Consuelo Silva, and Jose Hornedo.
Celia was born in California, but was raised in El Paso. She was a proud Bowie Bear graduate and football queen. She worked with her proprietor husband at Achilles Studio and taught at Father Yermo Elementary School. Together with her husband, they founded the NY (New Years) Teens club and opened their home to its members so that young people could have a place to socialize, pray, and hold meetings and dances. Celia prayed for many people, gave them advice, and won over their hearts and admiration. The many fortunate people, who were blessed to have known her, will miss her. God, help us to put into practice what she taught us.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 2nd from 5:00 to 9:00pm with vigil at 6:00pm at Martin Funeral Home Central. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, August 3rd at 9:30am at St. Patrick Cathedral. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 11:00am.
