She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Liza (Joel) and Jacque Lorainne, daughter-in-law Christina, grandchildren Alyssa Marette, Andrea Lizette, Dallas Joel, Skylar Quinn and Quentin Q Toby and one great grandson Jonah Joal. Her siblings Lupe Belcher, Jimmy and Joe Lopez along with several nephews and nieces.
She is preceded in death by her parents Santiago and Estela Lopez, brother(s) Chris and Juan Lopez, sister Anna Green, and as of very recent our dad Felix and brother Quentin Felix.
Our mom grew up in a Catholic home and was taught by nuns in her elementary years. She recounted that she was always asking them questions about God at times, deeper questions than what they had answers for. She was introduced to music by an Irish nun and loved it ever since. In high school she was in the choir along with several musicals. She loved to sing. She helped raise her sisters and brothers for many years while trying to be a good student. She enjoyed working in the garden with her father and later showed her own green thumb in her many gardens of beautiful flowers. She worked at several places as a teenager/young adult including JC Penney where she was the display decorator for the entire store. After creating a display, the merchandise would quickly fly off the shelves to be purchased. She was very proud of this and her love for fashion and sewing began and did not stop until her final days.
After high school, she continued to seek deeper answers about God and then met our dad. He helped lead her to knowing Jesus as her Savior. During their first years of marriage, they owned a curio shop (Cindy’ Curio Shop) along with managing 2 gas stations in Tucumcari.
They moved to Albuquerque where she was a fulltime homemaker. We have such great memories of her having fresh baked cookies and snacks when we came home from school. She would sew clothes for us, cook and bake all kinds of new and different foods, all the while being very active in ministry at our church. As a new believer she was eager to learn songs about God and loved to sing and teach the children to sing. Some of our sweetest memories are of both our parents serving in church.
In 1973, we moved to El Paso, where she continued to care for us at home and became even more involved in ministry at church. She served/volunteered as the church’s secretary for over 40 dedicated years along with teaching all age groups in Sunday School, GA’s, Acteens, VBS and singing solos and in the choir. She sang for many weddings, funerals and special occasions. After being a homemaker for many years she began to venture out and began working at Montgomery Wards, Michael’s, SAS Shoes and Family Christian Store. Although our parents great work ethics have been a great part of their legacy, having them demonstrate God’s love in ministry and leading us in a relationship with our Savior is the most important part of their legacy.
Her continued love for sewing showed itself in the countless clothes she created (and alterations) for our family. Many outfits for all her grandchildren and for my beautiful wedding dress.
Without a doubt, the past few years have been the hardest and most difficult times in our lives. Beginning with our mom’s illnesses, our dad’s stroke and passing away from COVID, followed by our brother passing way from COVID as well. Even through these trying times, we know that God’s comfort has and is bringing us through this.
We are so grateful for her medical team: Dr. Nathalie Minami, WellMed staff, Urgent Care, WellMed Palliative and Hospice Care and her Foster Home caregivers. Thank you church family for your visits, cards and gifts for our mom. She left this earth peacefully listening to worship music “Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling”.
Mom thank you for loving and caring for your family and for making an impact in the lives you ministered to. You will be greatly missed
