Calvin "Cal" Dee Griffin Jr. passed away on June 2, 2016. He was known for being a genuinely great guy and made an impression on everyone he met. He is best known for being a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed dearly. Cal was born in Toccoa, Georgia on April 28, 1937 to Connie May Pitts and Dee Griffin, who have preceded him in death. He was one of 10 siblings and was preceded in death by his brothers Mickey, Randy and Bobby.
Protecting people was in Cal’s nature. After attending Toccoa High School, Cal served in the U.S. National Guard, Army and Army Reserves. He retired from YISD (1975-1993) after having worked as the Head of Security at Hanks High School. From 1994 -2010 he served as a Bailiff for the El Paso Municipal Courts and retired a second time as Bailiff for the El Paso County Courthouse after 19 years of service. He cherished the students that he served and valued the people with whom he worked. He loved El Paso. Cal is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Velia H. Griffin. Along with his sons Daniel, Zeke, and Calvin III, he will be missed by daughter-in-laws Kate, and K.C., and grandchildren Matthew, Justin, Alexis, C.J., Rebekah, Mia, Triniti, and Calvin IV. He is also survived by his siblings Mary, Dee Ann, Linda, Jerry, Horace, and Julius. Visitation will be held Monday 6/6/16 at Hillcrest Funeral Home (1060 N.Carolina) from 5:00-9:00 pm with prayer starting at 7:00. The Mass will be held Tuesday 6/7/16 at 11:00 am at Trinity First Methodist (801 N. Mesa) followed by his burial at Fort Bliss Cemetery.
