Antonia Hernandez, 77, was granted her wish "I'll be HOME for Christmas" at sunset on Tuesday, December 23. At the gates of Heaven, Miss Toni was greeted at her new residence by her brother Roberto who died seven months ago, by her parents Antonio and Severa Hernandez and other siblings-Santiago, Leonarda, Margarita, Antonio Jr., and nephew Jimmy. Her first sunrise with God was free of the health issues that had caused her much pain and discomfort these past years. Truly, she is our Christmas angel, singing joyfully, praises to the Prince of Peace. Toni is survived by two sisters: Dolores and Teresa Hernandez, nephews and nieces. All of Antonia's funeral services will be held at Guardian Angel Catholic Church, 3021 Frutas. The visitation will be held on Monday, December 29, at 5 p.m. The Rosary service will follow at 6 p.m. The Funeral Mass is on Tuesday, December 30 at 11 a.m., followed by the interment at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Pallbearers are Charles Anthony Hernandez, Bill Luellman, Pete Vasquez, Juan Nevarez Jr., Carlos Aguirre, Raymudo Rios, Tony Hernandez and Danny Alvarado. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to neighbors, family and friends, to Fathers Jesus Maria Mena and Jose Luis, to the parishioners at Guardian Angel Church and Shiloh Baptist Church for their prayers. Also, to Drs. Fernando Raudales, Jacqueline Gouveia, Jesus Hernandez, Jeremy Cuthbertson, Mark Gallardo and Charles Pittle. Antonia was an employee for 35 years at the El Paso Water Utilities Engineering Department. Upon her retirement in 1995, she was a dedicated caregiver to her sister Lonnie (+2002) and to her brother Robert (+May 2014). Toni was a 43 year member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Corte Reina Isabela La Catolica 1581. She served as a treasurer of the CDA hall for eight years at Guardian Angel Church. Toni was a Catechist in the First Communion and Confirmation Programs. She served as lector for the 9:30 mass. Her radiant loving spirit motivated others to join ministries and serve their church. For those who wish to make a lasting tribute to her memory, a contribution to the building fund at Guardian Angel Church would be greatly appreciated.
