Alicia “Licha” P. Rivera born April 15, 1929, in El Paso, Tx passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 12:15 a.m. in her hometown. Alicia, mother of seven, was the fifth and youngest child of Praxedis and Nieves Palacios. As an adult, she worked hard at W.R. Weaver Company from 1949 to 1967, she retired from W. R. Weaver to become a full-time housewife and devote her time to raising her children.
She was a dedicated member of Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church and participated in assisting the church in several functions. As a creative soul, Alicia found joy in crafting and painting ceramics. Christmas was her favorite holiday, she adorned her house inside and out with bright, beautiful, colorful decorations she cherished so much. Taking pleasure in making her house the brightest in the neighborhood.
Anytime there was music she danced as if no one was watching and sang as if no one was listening. Alicia was the definition of a strong and independent woman. After becoming a single mother in 1977, she took care of her children, house, yard and finances – taking pride in being able to provide on her own. When she set her mind to complete a task, there was no obstacle or challenge, she could not overcome. Licha taught her family how to love, be honest and care for one another. She also showed them how to be brave, bulletproof, unapologetically themselves and to enjoy life to the fullest. Her love, legacy and strength are not only left in the hearts of her family and friends but in those who briefly met her.
She is preceded in death by her daughters, Susan A. Fierro and Rosa Martinez and three grandchildren. Survived by her three sons, Francisco Rivera Jr. wife LouAnn; Henry Rivera wife Dora; Michael Rivera wife Melinda; and her two daughters Anna Torres and Carmen Rivera husband Antonio. Alicia’s family also embraces 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren.
