Alice Lynn Slusser was born in Waukegan, Illinois on November 21, 1970 and died suddenly on May 19, 2020. She is survived by her mother, Marcia Slusser of El Paso, TX, daughters Lindsey Pearson and Erin Crowe of Ill, Grandmother Dorothy Slusser of Greenbay WI, Kathy (Steve) Humphries Greenbay, WI, Ellen Penington, Truth or Consequences, NM, Alice (Tom) Hudak of Cleveland, OH, Carol (Mike) Burt of Waukesha, WI, Lois Jeresko of Racine, WI, numerous cousins, relatives and friends in Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, New Mexico and New York.
Alice moved from Illinois to Tempe, Arizona in 1997 where she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She moved to El Paso, TX in 1998, went back to Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1999 and as her MS progressed moved back to El Paso, TX to live with her mother permanently in 2001.
As her mother I would like to remember some of the fun things we did together, going to festivals and concerts. We were very close always. I have many fond memories like when we went to Farm Aid in 1993 just before I moved to Texas. I called her and asked if she wanted to go to Farm Aid and if she could get off work. We ended up in row 18 on the main floor and had a great weekend in Ames, Iowa. Had one of the best steaks and giant shrimp I have ever had at a little diner in downtown Ft. Dodge, Iowa. One time she called me from Canada and told me she saw a moose walking through town and when she was living in South Beach, Florida she called me and said “Mom you won’t believe the cockroaches here are huge and can fly!”
Once she moved to El Paso in 2001 we went to many festivals and concerts. Alice was in a nursing home the last 4-1/2 years but she was able to come home for up to three days at a time and we still spent a lot of time together for birthdays, holidays, etc. Plus she was very social and made a lot of friends at the nursing home and I visited her twice a week until COVID shut the nursing home down to visitors. Some of the memories: The KLAQ BBQ back when it was at Western Playland at Ascarate Park, the Downtown Street fest where we saw Vince Neil and I believe Slaughter was the other band, The Coliseum where we saw Nickleback. We saw the musicals All Shook Up (all Elvis songs) and Addams Family Values, and the Moody Blues at the Plaza Theater. David Copperfield, Willie Nelson, Jeff Dunham, Ringo Starr and his All Star Band at the Abraham Chavez Theater. The Ringo Starr concert in 2017 was excellent with the keyboardist from Santana, singer from Toto, singer from Mr. Mister and Todd Rundgren. Great night with an audience ranging from 6 yrs. to 80 yrs. Lots of fun and smiles. Dwight Yoakam at Inn of the Mountain Gods in Ruidoso, NM. Had a great time here, spent the night, had great food and gambled in the casino after the concert. Seeing the Eagles at the Haskins Center (they played for three hours) about seven months before Glen Frey died. This year would have been a ZZ Top concert but it was cancelled due to COVID. The many years of Thanksgiving’s with Ellen and John and friends, Christmas dinner at Cattleman’s with family and friends, all the fourth of July’s sitting on the back porch together and watching the fireworks from the Upper Valley. And the many other festivals, concerts and places we went to over the years. And we loved watching scary movies together!
I love you to the moon and back and you will forever be in my heart and soul. So many good times, fun memories and a lot of laughs along with some very trying times too. You were always so upbeat about everything that life had thrown at you. I miss your almost nightly phone calls. Good night, sleep tight kiddo. You’re with God and the angels now.
