He was born August 7, 1952 in New Orleans, LA to Clair Seguin Mattern. Steve was the owner of Mel’s Seafood Restaurant. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and a yearly hunting trip to Illinois, spending time with his grandchildren, old western movies and watching the New Orleans Saints. He loved El Dorado, the community and the relationships with his customers at Mel’s.
Preceding him in death is his grandmother, Edna Seguin.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Mary Mattern of El Dorado; two daughters, Lori Newton, (Josh) of El Dorado & Elizabeth Mattern of El Dorado; his mother Clair Seguin Mattern; grandchildren, Kade Newton, Jillian Newton, Layla Maza & Caila Fairris; brothers, Donnie Mattern (Dena), Tommy Mattern (Whing), Johnny Mattern (Vickie) and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2018 at Young’s with Rev. Larry Hudson officiating and under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors. Visitation will be held 3:00-5:00 prior to the memorial service.
A private burial with military honors will be held June 26, 2018 at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock under the direction of Young’s.
