Robert Lee “Bob” Wright passed away at his home in El Dorado, Arkansas on Monday May 29th; he was 79 years old. Bob was born on August 15th, 1943 in Vardaman Mississippi to Earl Finley Wright and Willie Bell McGregor Wright. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Jo Ann Wright Gilreath and Virginia Sue Wright Blansett and two nieces.
Bob spent a majority of his youth working at a local dairy farm while going to school and enlisted in the Army in 1960. After sustaining an injury in the Army, Bob was transferred to the Mississippi National Guard where he was called up for the Oxford Riots and the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.
While on leave from the Guard in 1961, Bob met Dona Cassidy in Houston, Texas and the two were married on October 13th 1962 and remained married until his passing. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Bob would go to work for the USDA as a federal meat inspector as well as helped supervise the federal food stamp program. Bob would work for the USDA for 34 years until he retired in 1999.
One of Bob’s favorite things to do was travel, he made many memories traveling the country with his children and grandchildren. After retiring from the USDA, Bob turned his love of traveling into a business and started Wright’s Pilot Car where he and his wife would travel all 48 states in the continental US helping ensure the safe travel of oversized industrial equipment.
Bob was a member of Optimus International, a founder of the Northeast Louisiana Sideband Club, founded the Cub Scout troupe in Tioga, Louisiana, an avid lover of cars and motorcycles and ultimately was a dedicated son, son-in-law, bother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. Bob often would go beyond the distance to help those in need and never expected anything in return for his deeds.
