Larry was born October 31, 1947, in Ruston, Louisiana, to Wilbur and Beulah Williamson. The youngest of three children, he kept his parents on their toes with his antics. From hopping trains as a child to jumping into alligator infested swamps as an adult, Larry had plenty of bizarre stories to share. In high school and college, Larry was an athlete. At Ruston High School, he played football and baseball, and he won awards for diving. He also went on to play football for Louisiana Tech while earning a Bachelor of Science in Business. While at Louisiana Tech, Larry met Virginia Kay Smith, and in 1969, they were married. After college, Larry worked for the Louisiana DMV and later in the transportation industry at Wheeling Pipeline and Clean Harbors, from which he retired. In his spare time, he carried on his father’s legacy of police service (Lincoln Parish) as a reserve police officer in Junction City and coaching the summer youth baseball teams. At 6 foot 8 inches, Larry was a large man with a very large heart. He never met a stranger, and always had something funny to say. He loved to cook for his family and all the teenagers his children brought home. In recent years, Larry’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his favorite topics of conversation.
Larry is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Smith) Williamson; son, Richard Williamson; and sister, Sara Williamson.
Larry is survived by his daughter, Lara Robbins (Michael); son, Jonathan Williamson; brother, Charles “Buddy” Williamson (Alice); granddaughters, Hunter Lewis (Shelby) and Sara Robbins; grandson, William Robbins; great-granddaughters, DaLayni Lewis and Bristol Lewis; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Larry's Life will be announced at a later date. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Young's Funeral Directors.
