Eva Nell Harmon Dempsey, 99, of Trinity Village Assisted Living in Pine Bluff, Arkansas died January 17, 2015, after a short illness. She was born January 9, 1916, in Gans (Sequoyah County), Oklahoma. Her parents were Henry C. and Ollie White Harmon, pioneer residents of Sequoyah County, Indian Territory (later Oklahoma).
Mrs. Dempsey was educated in Oklahoma. She and Mr. Dempsey were married in Fort Smith, Arkansas on February 14, 1936. They lived in Fort Smith until 1954 when Mr. Dempsey was transferred by his employer, Colonial Bakery Company to El Dorado, Arkansas, where Mr. Dempsey retired.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Peyton Dempsey; two brothers in their youth; and four sisters, Muriel Boucher (Clyde), Marie Hart (Oscar), Josephine Randall (Ralph); twin-brother-and-sister, Henry B. Harmon (Jean) and Lee Wiseman (Perry) all of California; and a grandson, Joseph Peyton Dempsey, Jr. of Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
She is survived by sons, Joseph Peyton Dempsey (Pat) of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Henry Harmon (Hank) Dempsey (Tara) of Danville, Virginia, and Timothy John Dempsey (Linda) of Woodworth, Louisiana; and four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2015, at Young’s Chapel with Dr. Lynn Worthen officiating. Entombment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors. Visitation will be at Young’s beginning at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the First Baptist Church, 200 W. Main, El Dorado, AR 71730.
