At his request, there will be no public funeral, and private graveside services will be held for family and friends at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in El Dorado, Arkansas, Saturday, January 20, at 11:00 a.m.
Brother Charles Hargett was a native of El Dorado, AR; a long time resident of Vicksburg, MS, where his teaching ministry began as a member of Bowmar Avenue Baptist Church. He was a Civil Engineering graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a Masters of Science degree in structural engineering from Purdue University. He was a registered professional engineer and an ordained Southern Baptist minister and evangelist, and served as pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Arkadelphia, AR, for over 20 years.
Brother Charles married his beloved wife Janice “Honey” Elia Hargett on July 18, 1959; they were married 44 years. Janice passed away in May of 2003, and he missed her “every single day.”
After being ordained a minister in the early 1970’s, Brother Charles found his life calling teaching what is arguably one of the most difficult and misunderstood books of the Bible. He taught “The Revelation” more than 185 times in over 150 churches.
In addition to teaching, Charles was an occasional hunter, an avid fisherman and a championship duck-caller. In the 1950’s, you could even catch him on the weekend covering Elvis tunes as a guitar-playing lead singer of “The Bopsters.”
Charles is survived by his two daughters, Karen Hargett and Lisa (Gary) Noble; son Chuck Hargett; sister Jimmie Hardee; grandchildren James (and Cathryn) Burnett, John (and Misty) Busby, Brittany (Jonathan) Chisholm, Paige (Andrew) Mitchell, and Cade Noble; great grandchildren Lucas and Elia Burnett, Ethan Busby and Micah Mitchell; special caregiver Janice Penquite; and a long list of extended family members and longtime friends.
Charles is preceded in death by his wife Janice Hargett; parents Lonnie and Pink Hargett; and his brother, Paul Hargett.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Mississippi Kidney Foundation.
