Billy "Bill" J. Mays was born on October 15, 1928, and passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 14, 2022. The day before he passed, his family gathered around him. He was weak but able to sing, saying Amen after each song of praise.
He is survived by three children, Michael Mays and his wife Maggie, Keith Mays and his wife Loeta, Andrea Mireles and her husband David. Grandchildren Justin Mays, Stefan and his wife Elizabeth, Stuart and Spencer Mireles. Great-granddaughters Ayanna and Abigail.
Bill served in the Army reaching the rank of Sergeant 1st class during the Korean War. He received the medal of Honor for his bravery. He married Zola Harrison on July 2, 1951. She has been waiting for him in heaven since May 21, 2009. He loved music, playing the bass fiddle in a band during his youth. He was a man of determination, rising from humble beginnings to a successful career with Colonial Bread, eventually owning several Sonic Drive-ins. He was also a man of Faith in the saving power of Jesus Christ. Everyone who knew him was blessed by his positive attitude and friendliness.
Visitation will be from 1:00 till service time.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Young's Funeral Home Chapel with Military Honors following at the burial in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery in El Dorado, AR.
