Our beloved Sandy was called home to the Lord on May 3, a day after celebrating her 59th birthday. She left us peacefully, surrounded by her faithful parents, Conrad & Emma Jimenez, and other family members. Her life was defined by love, happiness, kindness, and purity of heart; all those who knew her will miss her passion for life and positive influence.
Sandy’s parents held a philosophy that she would participate in life fully and completely. Over 40 years she attended St. Madeline-Sophie Center, Grossmont Unified Special Education and Noah Homes Respite where she made many friends and enjoyed a robust social life filled with dancing, working various jobs, bowling, appearing in musicals and athletic events through Special Olympics. It was through Sandy’s membership in this community that her parents, siblings, and other family members also enjoyed many years of activities and fundraisers including the school’s annual fashion show. But it is not through accolades and accomplishments that we measure Sandy’s contribution to this world, but rather through a lens of how she lived and loved and laughed each day.
Sandy was taught by her parents to be kind, generous, compassionate, and attentive. All qualities that parents can only hope their child absorbs and actively expresses each day. But in Sandy’s case, these qualities were her true self; a pure-hearted personality who simply enjoyed being with friends and family and making people happy. She also had a spunky side to her – she was the first to give a speech at a family gathering, the first to intervene in an argument with a stern warning to “Cool it”, and the first to extend her hand to newcomers to introduce herself and give a hearty handshake. Her love of music was surpassed only by her love of pop culture television series and her beloved Archies Comic Books.
Sandy was a loyal daughter, sister, friend, aunt, niece and cousin. Sandy is survived by her parents, Conrad & Emma Jimenez and her four siblings Conrad “Ed” Jimenez (Ivalee), Cathy Mercurio (Michael), Adri Sadler (Tom) and James Jimenez (Lourdes) and eight nieces and nephews.
