Helen was born May 20, 1946 in Scotland; the youngest of 10 children. She loved hill walking and traditional Scottish dance. She was a school teacher in Scotland, and eventually met the love of her life, Norman, who was in the US Navy. As Norman is fond of saying, "all she did was smile at me and that was all it took" to begin a lifetime of love and commitment. They were engaged on their second date, and married on October 5th 1968; a marriage that lasted 52 years.
Norman's career took them to places all over the world, two children would eventually follow, Steven; born in Guam in 1970; and Dina, born in Pensacola Florida in 1972. Helen would be a wonderful loving mom to her children; and according to her children, all she needed was the "look" to keep them in line.
In 1984, Helen was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She faced this disease with incredible courage and tenacity. She never complained about it and she ALWAYS had a positive attitude. In her later years as the disease overtook her body; she remained courageous and positive the whole time. Norman epitomized the "have and to hold, for better or worse, till death do us part" marriage vows. He was her primary caretaker and attended to her every need.
Helen is survived by her husband, Norman K. Marocco; Steven Marocco (Isabel) of Lakeside, California; and daughter Dina Marocco of San Diego, California; grandson Gabriel Marocco (Karina), granddaughter Theresa Williams (Keenan) and great granddaughter Alaia Williams.
In lieu of flowers; the family suggests donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society; www.nationalmssociety.org in Helens name.
