Collins John Deslatte, age 78, of Lakeside, California, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. Collins was born August 7, 1943 in New Iberia, Louisiana and was very proud of his Cajun heritage.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964 and was aboard the U.S.S. Sperry as the ship's barber. In 1999, he retired after 33 years at NADEP North Island, working in Methods and Standards as an Engineering Tech.
Collins is survived by his wife of 46 years, Donna Deslatte; his son Curtis Deslatte of St. Helens, Oregon; his son Kevin Boldin (Mary) of Santee, California; and his daughter Tammy Backer (Jeff) of Stevensville, Montana; his brother Carroll Deslatte (Corrine) of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana and his sister Mary Jane Landry (Jimmie) of New Iberia, Louisiana. Collins is also survived by his 5 grandsons, Joshua, Kaleb, and Jeremiah Backer of Stevensville, Montana and Arden and Grayson Boldin of Santee, California.
Collins was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Eunice Deslatte, and his sister, Debra Ann Deslatte, of New Iberia, Louisiana.
What Collins enjoyed most in life was spending time with loved ones and sharing stories. His hobbies included woodworking, building bird houses, cooking a wide variety of foods (mainly Cajun dishes), and going to lunch with friends and family.
