Valuthundil Mathew Zacharia

Mathew was born in Kattanam, Kerala on May 7th, 1937 to K.M. Mathew and Achamma. He grew up in a family with 5 brothers and 2 sisters. He enrolled in a printing press technology course and then obtained his first job at Roorkee University. During this time, he decided to attend the University of Delhi and received a Bachelor of Arts degree.

In 1968 he married Annamma Joseph at the Kattanam Mar Thoma Church. In February, 1970 Neena was born and in August of the same year they immigrated to Canada. Dad’s first cousin Ponnamma and Philip Palamattam had arrived several years earlier and was essential in our family’s success in Canada.

In 1971 Binu was born in Medicine Hat and by 1973 the whole family made the move to Edmonton. After a few years in Millwoods they settled in their forever home in the Callingwood area of west Edmonton. Mathew’s entire career was at the Workers Compensation Board as the Printshop manager. Mathew was blessed to be able to see Neena and Binu’s university graduations, marriages and the birth of all his grandchildren.

His final resting place will be at the Kattanam Mar Thoma Church cemetery in Kerala, India.

A Funeral Service will be held at Hainstock's Funeral Home & Crematorium, 9810 34th Ave, Edmonton, AB, T6E6L1, CA, on May 9, 2026, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am.
