It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Robert William Cooper on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at the age of 68 with his two sons by his side. Born May 2, 1953 in St. Johns, NL, Bob is survived by his sons, Bryan David Cooper (Nicole Marie), Derek James Otto Cooper (Hayley May); grandchildren, Jackson & Brynnleigh; grandpuppy Luna; sister, Carol Anne Stanley (Vaughan), NB; brothers, Dave and Gary Cooper, NL; father and mother in-law, Otto and Waltraut Symanczyk, as well as numerous brothers and sisters in-law, nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends. He was predeceased by his parents Dave and Alice Cooper of St. John's, NL, and his loving wife Valerie Marie Cooper (Symanczyk).
Bob loved to watch hockey either on tv (Go Maple Leafs!) or in the stands at one of Derek’s recreational leagues wearing his favorite referee jersey. He enjoyed an early morning round of golf, playing in dart league, and sitting out on his patio relaxing by his firepit. Most of all, Bob loved to spend time with his family and playing with his dear grandpuppy Luna in the backyard and spoiling her with special treats. Bob had a special relationship with Jackson who commonly referred to Bob as Grandpa Ogre (as a reference to the movie Shrek). He enjoyed good conversation and always had a quick comeback. His sense of humour stayed with him right until the end.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no service as per Bob’s wishes.
The family wish to thank the staff at the Grey Nuns Hospital Emergency Department, and Units 54 and 43, for their compassionate and dedicated care. Donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Cross Cancer Institute of Alberta.
