Dear Sandra and Family,

Your family meant the world to me as I was going through the critical stages of preteen through young adult going to university.  I was honored to watch a young and beautiful family blossom in front of me.  

Pastor Peter.....
The words come easily but are hard to keep concise.....proof of a wonderful and faithful human/soul.  These are my memories of his service at Zion Lutheran Church in Athabasca.  

It was during a transition of passing that Pastor Peter first served our family.  My grandfather was passing away and Pastor Peter visited with extreme compassion and faith.  He co-officiated the funeral for Sven Damgaard.

Soon after, Pastor Peter became my confirmation pastor and I must say.....critical thinking was most encouraged.  I felt like I was given an introduction to university theology and it felt great.  My faith was strengthened immensely.

As life went on, my grandmother passed away in 1991.  She was ready to be with her husband.  Pastor Peter, with his gentle kindness, officiated the funeral for Luise Damgaard.  

Later that year, on December 30th, the unexpected death of my father shook our family as well as the community.  Life stood still for me.  Pastor Peter officiated the funeral of his congregation member and friend,  Edward Damgaard.  His compassion and example of faith were amazing.  At the gravesite service, there was a point where everyone paid their respects and left.  I couldn't leave.....I couldn't move.  This was it.....how could I move?  Family members tried to help but I couldn't move.  Pastor Peter gently guided me away from the gravesite with comforting words.  He remained a source of strength for our family as we all had to get used to a new normal.  

Flashing forward, it was time for university.  I thought about references and Pastor Peter came to mind.  He never hesitated.  He told me Augustana would be lucky to have me.  My faith continued to grow in this wonderful academic environment infused with faith.

From that point on, my wings could spread.  I will always feel Pastor Peter's strength as I move through life.  His name means "Rock".  Pastor Peter was a rock for his faith.  His selfless kindness truly exemplified the life of a Christian.

Pastor Peter made it his mission to reach as many people as possible with the Good News.  He wanted everyone to know the peace and grace of Jesus Christ.  In one of his superb sermons, he reminded the congregation that when we feel like the impossible is upon us, Jesus knows our pain and struggles.....He walked this earth....felt/experienced everything we do....and He reminds us that He is with us and that through Him, all things are possible.  These words of that sermon will always be with me.  

May the grace and peace of God our Father, through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, be with you now and always +.

I only met Peter once, when I began my own role at the Glenrose Hospital.  I found him to be a kind approachable and forthright person, and could immediately understand how he was a good Pastor, and a sensitive, invaluable and supportive,  Pastoral Care Provider at our hospital.  I am very saddened by his sudden passing, and loss of this special person at such a young age, and my heart and condolences go out to his family and friends. I speak for everyone at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital when I mention the shock and disbelief with which we heard the very sad news of Peter's passing away. Peter was a kind, gentle, humble, powerfully empathetic soul who knew how to listen, how to be there, how to witness for people. He had a tremendous impact on the countless patients to whom I referred him for Pastoral Counseling. I considered Peter one of my mentors at GRH and being newly hired this Spring, he was someone I sought out for advice on how our roles worked together to the benefit of our mutual patient caseloads.
I had the opportunity to sit with Peter in his office several times and shoot the breeze. He always came across as genuine and I appreciated his wry sense of humour, something I share and got to witness regularly.
I am incredibly grateful for knowing Peter for the brief time I did. My life is all the better for the positive impact he had on me and on my professional practice with patients.
Please accept my condolences on his unexpected and sudden passing. Know that he was a great man who did great things, who lived life with passion, who quietly went about his job but in that very quietness made an impact at GRH that will never be forgotten.

We are deeply sadden by Peters sudden passing. We greatly appreciated his love and caring ways during our losses, weddings and baptisms. He will be missed by all. The Tanski families and extended families.

We were shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Peter's passing. We got to know Peter as a dedicated, kind, thoughtful and compassionate man who brought light and hope into the lives of his parishioners, family, and friends. Peter's sense of humour and good natured personality always lent an element of calm reflection to any conversation we had at family gatherings. We learned a great deal about Peter's childhood from both Peter and Anita, who had many interesting and funny stories about their childhood together. Our hearts and thoughts go out to Sandra, Andrew, and David, and all the Grundler family ... especially Anita, Aggie and Frank. We know that Peter's life, and his dedication to his faith, his family and his friends, will be remembered fondly by all those whose lives he touched. Our most sincere condolences. Peter was a good man, and we will miss him.

We were deeply saddened to hear of Peter's death.  May the sure and certain hope of the resurrection through our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen and encourage you in the difficult days ahead.  You are in our prayers.

Words cannot convey the devastating loss we are all feeling at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital as the news of Peter's sudden death sinks in.  Peter was a wonderful person - a sensitive and caring soul - and our hearts are breaking.  An unspeakable loss for his family, his colleagues at the Glenrose and for all who knew him.  My sincere condolences to Peter's family at this very sad time.  

I met Peter when he was pastor at the Zion Lutheran Church in Athabasca.  A beautiful soul.  May God bless Sandra, the boys and his extended family. 

I had the privilege of meeting Peter in his capacity at the Glenrose as I work next door; we were able to coordinate some scarce Pastoral Care resources.  Peter and I share several common volunteers, and he was well respected by his volunteers.  Though it sounds trite, he will truly be a hard person to replace at the Glenrose; the next person has large shoes to fill. In my limited contact with him I could see the Glenrose was in good hands.  He will truly be missed.

We were overcome with a deep sadness to hear of Peter's passing. He was a kind, compassionate and devoted person. We have been fully blessed by Peter's grace and goodwill.  Our sincere condolences to Peter's entire family.  He will truly be missed and forever cherished in our memories.

Peter was a lovely example of what all people should strive to be. Honest, kind, humble and loving. His faith was unwavering. 
He officiated my wedding 24 years ago and my husband and I are greatful to him.
