Back in the early sixties I was staying next door to Peter batoni and family on 111 street one day he asked me to take his JAGUAR XKE across the river to get the oil changed I will always remember that day driving his XKE  I was 21 just out of art school and will remember his trust in me & a once in a lifetime moment thank you Peter and add another trust his wife had in to babysit the children at another time

My childhood in edmonton is full of memories in your yard - although the games would change from season to season - the consistency of Peter's naturally welcoming, larger than life personality would draw a bunch of kids into a mad sprint to the house as soon as we would hear his car turn up the driveway. Peter would never fail with his humour and playfulness - something of which is wonderful to reflect on as we now are fathers ourselves.

Dear Barbara:

It was with sadness that I read the news in the recent edition of The Edmonton Journal that your husband, Peter, had passed away. I regret that I could not be at the funeral service on March 6th to express my personal condolences to you. However, I did wish to write and convey to you the fond respect I always had for Peter. I first met him when I was going to university in the mid-fifties, and he was a resident at the Delta Upilson Fraternity House. Although he was not a member of the Fraternity, he was welcomed by their members and we participated in many events. I was obvious to me at that time that he was a very industrious individual and he showed a lot of courage in leaving his native Italy to find his fortune in Canada. He became a true Canadian during that process. All who knew Peter respected him as he was a man of integrity – true to himself, his family and his faith. When a loved one who has given so much during his lifetime leaves this earth, there is always sadness, and in particular amongst those closest to him, being you and your family. I hope short notes such as this from people who remember Peter will in some way ease the pain of your loss.

May Peter’s soul rest in peace.

I worked for many years together with Peter. We first worked together in Drayton Valley, and then years later I had the privilege of working for him at the Italian Centre Shop, Newton Place and College Plaza. Dear Barbara and Family,

It has been a privilege over the past 30 years spending time with you and Peter. I am so thankful that we were all together for Easter Dinner at my home last year, as I have several wonderful photos of that day. Peter was such a loving and gentle soul, and sooooo much fun to be around....  Brilliant "Yes", yet could be so silly at the same time, all of which we came to love about him.

I am sure, you, Joe and Francesca have some wonderful memories of the man so many people came to love.  Let every one of these precious memories bring a smile to your faces, and let them carry you through the rest of your lives.

 Dear Barbara and family.   I was saddened to hear of Peter's passing and extend to you my deepest sympathy.   He was a very dear friend to me in his and my early days in Edmonton. We worked together on numerous projects and shared many laughs.   He always treated me fairly and with respect.
Over the years our paths have grown apart although the memories have not.   I am presently away from Edmonton so will not be able to join you and all his friends at his memorial service.   He left a  major mark on our city and will be well remembered for doing so.

Barbara and family; so sorry to hear of Peter's passing.From our last conversation I understood that he was not well and even though this ends his suffering no one is fully prepared to let go. Living in and, later, visiting your house and surrounding land was always a source of wonder. From the flashy red De Tommaso sports car, to the swimming pool, to the ravine behind the house, there was always something for young boys to explore, room to run and a safe place to play hockey or learn to ride a bike. There was also an endless amount of grass to cut and snow to shovel but that was a plus, too. Why? Because joy could be found in simple things like cruising around the lawn on the riding mower; and the money earned from these jobs – along with a gracious concession from Joe – helped me buy a drum set which became my best friend and close companion for years. 
All during this time, as I was growing up, whenever I ran into Peter he always had a kind word or witty comment and even after having been away for so many years he and Barbara were kind enough to lend me the use of their apartment so I could show my Italian wife the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. 
For all these things I remember - and the many others I do not - to Barbara, Joe, Francesca & families I send you my and my wife Patrizia’s deepest condolences for your loss.
