It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Penelope Elizabeth “Betty” Coble, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, foster mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, 3G and cherished friend. Betty left us peacefully on April 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in the Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, on July 29, 1927. A creative spirit with a passion for art, gardening, sewing and she dedicated many years of her life serving others as a volunteer.
Betty was blessed with two marriages during her life, first to George Fletcher and later to Calvin Coble. Throughout her life, she endured profound heartache with remarkable grace, mourning the loss of her beloved sons, Glenn and David, as well as both of her husbands. Despite these hardships, Betty remained a steadfast source of strength and love for her family, always nurturing and supporting those closest to her.
She is survived by her children: Peggy (Bernie) Herbert, Mona (Kel) Braconnier, Mark Coble, Daryl (Terese) Fletcher, Lynn Stawnicky, and Dwayne (Laurie) Gouldhawke. Betty’s legacy continues through her grandchildren: Katherine (Doug) Campbell, Tina (Marty) Stierle, Kevin Herbert, Kristian (Janice) Fletcher, Katelyn Fletcher, Pamela Herbert, Sherri Miller, Jason (Amanda) Thomlinson, Tammy (Mark) Bahme, Stephanie (Tim) Murray, Michael (Becca) Braconnier, and Parker Gouldhawke; her great-grandchildren: Mason (Kaity) Stierle, Laryn Campbell, Ryan Miller, Piper Stierle, Tristan Campbell, Ryder Campbell, Emma Thomlinson, Lincoln Michaud, Liam Davies, Jayden Thomlinson, Taneisha Michaud, Cooper Thomlinson, Eric Murray, Markus Fletcher, Tina Murray, Everett Michaud, Max Bahme, Caleb Bahme, Alek Fletcher, William Murray, George Murray, Zack Bahme, Holland Braconnier, Miles Braconnier, Skylar Braconnier; and her great-great-granddaughter Arya Stierle. She also leaves her sister-in-law Barb Thornton, numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by first husband George Fletcher, son Glenn Coble, parents Myrtle Grace (Madill) and Arthur Edwin Thornton, second husband Calvin Coble, sister Patricia Erikson, son David Fletcher and brother David Thornton.
A celebration of Betty's life will be held on Monday, April 14th at 10:00am at Hainstock's Funeral Home, 9810 34 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 6L1. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to a local charity of your choice in Betty's memory. Rest in peace, dear Betty/Mom/Grandma; you will forever be in our hearts.
