He had an overwhelming love for his family, along with his passion for long-haul trucking, with over 40 years in the transportation industry. Heavy equipment was also a big part of Martin’s life. We will always think of Martin’s beautiful smile and infectious laugh.
Martin is lovingly remembered by his best friend and wife; Barbara, his four children; Sarah (Matt) Edwards, Amy (Austin) Budd, Jordy Van Wyk, Caitlin Van Wyk (Brandon Jodoin), his four grand daughters; Sophie, Carlena, Kaylee, and Isabelle, his mother; Maria (Mia), sister; Petra (Al) Reid, brother; Leo, brother-in-law; Bill (Linda) Akerman, nephews; Billy and Landon and nieces; Loni and Shianne. He was predeceased by his father Gysbertus (Bert) in 2004 and brother Jack in 2019.
The family would like to thank Dr. Debenham and staff of the Cross Cancer Institute, Martin’s family doctor Hamza Alqaser, and the doctors and staff at the U of A who made it possible for Martin to come home.
A Funeral Service will be held at Memories Funeral Home and Crematorium 13403 St. Albert Trail Edmonton, Alberta on Friday August 6, 2021 with viewing at 1:00 pm followed by the service at 2:00 pm with Father Dino Benedet officiating.
A private family Interment to follow at the Namao Cemetery.
Celebration of Life to follow Interment.
Memorial Donations in Martin’s honour may be made to the Namao United Church of the charity of their choice.
