It is with shattered hearts that the family of Kevin Scott Carmichael announce his passing on January 24, 2023 at the age of 62. After a fifteen year struggle with depression and anxiety, Kevin tragically died by suicide after a recent change in his medication regimen. He was taken from us far too soon.
Kevin was predeceased by his parents James Stuart Carmichael and Margaret Helene Carmichael (nee McCullough).
He is survived by his loving children, James Carmichael (Courtney) and Kaiti Carmichael (Arman), close friend Leanne Adolph and countless friends within the Edmonton music and fitness communities. He will be missed dearly by siblings Jim (Patchanee), Dom (Jitra), and Valerie; his nieces Beverly, Elana, Josie, Pam, and nephew Bobby; as well as myriad cousins and extended family with whom he recently reconnected via family reunion.
Always a strong believer in giving back to his community, Kevin was a longtime blood donor and volunteered regularly for various causes throughout his life, including Santas Anonymous, in palliative care units, and at The Edmonton Food Bank.
A lifelong musician with a passion for rock, Kevin was a talented bass player, guitarist, singer, and keyboardist who was always happiest while jamming among friends. He toured around western Canada extensively with his various bands during his early twenties. His unique sense of humour, friendly, light-hearted, and easygoing presence in the local music community will be missed immensely. Kevin also had an affinity for fitness and was a regular at a local gym and bootcamp group. He will be sorely missed in these communities as well.
Kevin's death was preventable, and his family wishes to commemorate him by helping bring awareness to men's mental health issues and reducing the stigma around discussing mental health & suicide. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in Kevin's name to the Centre for Suicide Prevention (www.suicideinfo.ca/donate) which supports men's mental health through their Buddy Up program (www.buddyup.ca).
Cremation will take place this week, with a Memorial service scheduled at 11:00 am Saturday, February 4th at Hainstock's Funeral Home.
