With a deep sense of sorrow and loss, our family announces the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather James Darwish. James is predeceased by his beloved wife Elvera and his brother David. He leaves behind his children Lorraine (Ken), Mark (Nancy), Shelley (Dan), Alexis (Darcy) and Don, his sister Florence Parnell and his special friend Gertrude Love. He was blessed to have 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
James earned his CA designation and spent most of his career working for the Alberta Government, retiring in the position of Assistant Deputy Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs. James was very dedicated and proud of his work fighting for Seniors rights in Alberta.
James enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and especially sharing with them his passion for jazz music. He spent his retirement years travelling with the love of his life, Elvera. One of their favourite activities was watching horse races together. He was an avid runner, a beekeeper, a gardener and he loved listening to the radio.
A Celebration of James’ life will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Hainstock’s Funeral Home, 9810-34 Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnifred Stewart Association.
