Heinz leaves to mourn his loving wife Susan, daughters Karen (Robert) Lemke and Dianna (Matthew) Mastrangelo, granddaughters Madison and Peyton, sister Rita (Lynn) Spain, nieces Stephanie (Sean) Cosgrove and Julie (Allan) Klompas, and numerous other friends and relatives including his mother-in-law Helen Groschl and sister-in-law Judy Bartos. He is predeceased by his parents Rudolf and Ida Lemke.
Heinz will be remembered first and foremost for his love of and devotion to his family, followed closely by his love of the Edmonton Oilers. If he wasn’t in Las Vegas or on a Caribbean cruise, he could undoubtedly be found with a glass of bourbon and a cigar in the garage, enjoying a beer with friends at Drifters, tinkering around with the latest electronics, or barbecuing his famous dry ribs. His ear scratches were his “grand-doggo” Dior’s most favourite. He left a memorable mark and many great memories on all of the lives he’s touched.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation and gratitude to the nurses and staff of the University of Alberta Hospital Internal Medicine and Critical Care units, Mel Miller Hospice at Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre, AHS Palliative Care team, and Medical Assistance in Dying team for the compassionate care Heinz received in his final weeks.
Please join us in celebrating Heinz’s life and legacy on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 2:00pm at Hainstock’s Funeral Home & Crematorium - 9810 34 Avenue NW in Edmonton, AB. There will be a short service followed by lunch and refreshments.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or another charity of your choosing.
