Our hearts are broken to announce that our beloved Gregoria Batarina Primero passed away on 16 July 2024, after a brief but valiant battle with illness. Her family is heartened to know that she was not alone, but passed in the presence of a loved one.
Born on 9 May 1942 in Gattaran, Philippines, she married her soulmate Julio Primero in 1961. Together they immigrated, realizing the Canadian dream in 1997, and helped their children raise their own families in their adopted homeland.
Gregoria’s life was spent in service to God and family. Her heart was always pure, and her love knew no bounds in that service. She enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family, always with endless love and laughter. Gregoria will be especially remembered for her generosity with her time, hugs and kisses for her eight grandchildren.
Gregoria’s soul has now joined Julio’s in everlasting peace in Heaven, where they can finally be together again after his passing in 2003.
Gregoria is survived by her sons Johnny (Esther), Joseph (Maria) and Jimmy, all of Edmonton, and Joel (Cathy) of Manila; and her daughters Jeanne (Edwin) and Jocelyn (Vincent), also of Edmonton; her grandchildren Jedrienne, Jerika, Jessy, Jacquelyne, Alexis, Alexander, Vera and Victoria, all of Edmonton; and her siblings Rufo Batarina (Fely) of Santa Maria, Margarita Manibog of Anaheim, Art Batarina (Cecil) of Burbank, and Naty Corpuz, of Edmonton.
Prayer service and visitation for Gregoria will be held on Friday, 26 July 2024 between 5:00 and 9:00pm, and on Saturday, 27 July 2024 between 5:00 and 9:00pm, at Hainstock’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, 9810 – 34 Avenue, Edmonton.
A Catholic funeral mass and a short luncheon will occur on Tuesday, 30 July 2024 beginning at 10:00am, at The Catholic Parish of Corpus Christi, 2707 – 34 Street, Edmonton; followed by burial at 1:00pm at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, 4814 Meridian Street, Edmonton.
Gregoria’s family would like to express their gratitude to Drs. Colliton, Khan, Gill, Work and Miriam, and to the numerous nurses of the Grey Nuns Community Hospital, for their professional attention to her care; and to Dr. Yip of the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, for his sound and helpful advice.
To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.
