We are very sad to hear of the passing of uncle George. We regret not seeing more of him over the years because he was a real nice man who we enjoyed being around and talking with . Our sincere condolences to his boys and also to auntie Ann . We will miss him a lot.

Our heartfelt condolences to Raffa and Block families.  Unfortunately we will not be in attendance at the funeral.  A donation and a mass in memory of Uncle George will be said at our parish, St. Stephen's in Lacombe, in May.

The Raffa family is the perfect example of the resilient people who came to Canada with a vision and stayed true to their principles as they created a new and better life for themselves and their children.  This loving and stable foundation produced a second generation of children who also went on to be significant contributors to their communities, and create loving families of their own. 
George was one of these children.  He, his 4 siblings and the future generations they produced shared many happy times together.  It was at one of these Raffa gatherings that I first had opportunity to meet him and his brilliant family.  
I was at once impressed how chaotic a life with 4 young boys must be.  All so deeply involved in sport, I couldn’t imagine how much these young men ate!!  In spite of the chaos, the time and the food challenges, the thing that stood out to me, was how very loved these boys were. 
When you spent time with George, you were listened to.  You usually learned something and you were almost certainly inspired to read something he suggested when you got a moment.  He was tireless!  I once ran into him in Home Depot at 11 pm.  We were both there looking for an item for a rental property project and obviously trying to beat the clock.  Despite the late hour he made time to stop for a meaningful visit.  I was just his nephew’s wife and he wasn’t required to “know” me….but he made it so and he did it so easily.  
George had “warm eyes”.  They are familiar to me because his sister (my mother-in-law) is blessed with them also.  These eyes truly reflected what lived inside him.  An intelligent, humble, and selfless person who gently went about his life quietly helping and providing for the people he loved, in the most thoughtful of ways.
The world is not the same now.  We will miss his surprise visits, his great ideas and his friendship. I am most certainly a better person having known him.
Godspeed George, your time here was well spent and you will be missed.
