In the spring Evan returned to Alberta to work as an electrician, for which he was a third-year NAIT apprentice. Evan was planning to return to Vancouver and his career as a rigging grip followingresolution of the film industry’s actor/writer strike.
Evan was born in North Vancouver, BC, on March 9, 1993. He had the good fortune to live across Canada—Vancouver, Edmonton, Antigonish, NS, Spruce Grove and his beloved Twin Lakes, BC.
Evan had many passions, and he was a gifted and natural athlete. He loved golf, hockey, snowboarding, skateboarding, mountain biking, dirt biking, quading, hiking, boating, camping, and fishing. Evan was an outdoorsy kid who grew into a true outdoorsman. Every endeavour he undertook, he excelled at. Evan encouraged and mentored youngsters and he made many close friends on his journey. Evan had a ready smile and was always ready to jump in and help.
Over the years and across the miles, Evan maintained friendships with his Spruce Grove pals, many of whom he started and finished school with. He was highly regarded as an IBEW electrician and as an IATSE 891 rigging grip. He developed solid relationships with many colleagues.
Evan had his extended family, his Twin Lakes family, whom he was very close to throughout his life.
It was a testament to these relationships that became very apparent during Evan’s weeklong stay in the ICU. The waiting rooms were often filled with people who came to sit with Evan and offer support to Lori and Brian. Others couldn’t visit in person, so we facilitated phone calls and FaceTime visits. Evan is loved by many.
Although Evan remained on life support, his family and friends were with him around the clock, talking, laughing, reminiscing, playing his favourite music, praying, and holding hope.
Evan is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Lori Johnson; father, Brian Kuchera; stepmom, Kelly Moon; grandparents, William and Lena Kuchera; and, of course, his beloved French Bulldog, Leroy. He is deeply loved by his aunts, uncles, cousins, and so many dear friends. We will all miss Evan more than words can describe, and we will carry our cherished memories of him forever in our hearts.
Evan was predeceased by his beloved grandparents, Arnie and Flo Johnson, and his cousin, Henry Fafard.
We offer our deepest gratitude to the surgeons, doctors, nurses, respiratory technicians, and therapists at the University of Alberta Neurosciences ICU, where Evan received the best care possible and was treated with the utmost respect and dignity. Thank you to the HOPE Organ Donation team, who facilitated the new beginning of Evan’s kidneys, which have given continued life to two people. This is our “glimmer” and what we hold as Evan’s last, most precious gift.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to SCARS (Second Chance Animal Rescue).
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 4th, at 12pm, at Hainstock’s Funeral Home, 9810-34 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta.
