When he was 12 he announced he wanted to be a Mountie, and to that end he endured school all the while working 15 or more hours a week.
In 1973 he married Leoni and was hired by the County of Parkland Police in 1974. The training was with the City of Edmonton Police and in the same class was his cousin Bill.
In October 1977, despite a pregnant wife and young son in tow, David realized his goal of joining the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He served in both highway and rural detachments in Saskatchewan with dedication and pride. Realizing the importance of his family, more than his career, he re-invented his ambitions and went to work in Investigation and Control with the Federal Government in 1985.
His son Garrett’s suicide in 1997 broke his heart and his spirit and in 2002 he returned from working in Ottawa suffering from poor health. He retired in 2003.
Dave then enjoyed his garden and remodeling the house in Mount Pleasant along with trips to Mexico, Cuba, Alaska and Vegas.
But it was the birth of his granddaughters Brooke in 2003, Paige in 2007 and Tara in 2009 that gave him tremendous joy and who helped keep him with us for as long as they could. He passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2019.
He will be missed.
