We are sad and heartbroken to share that Calvin Schick, aged 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 10, 2022, with his wife Helen, daughter Kimberly and grandson Lucas by his side, after 7 days in critical condition at the U OF A Hospital. He unexpectedly suffered a Stroke which left him unable to speak & paralyzed on his right side, as well as having a massive Brain Bleed that Doctors couldn’t stop or drain which lead to his passing.
Calvin was born August 22, 1941, and is survived by his wife of 59 years, daughter Kimberly (Grant) Puddicombe and his grandchildren Lucas and Sarabella of New Zealand. Calvin is also survived by his 4 siblings Paul, Marilyn, Verana, Elwood and numerous relatives & friends.
He grew up on a farm outside of Lemberg, Sask, and met Helen when they were just teenagers. He worked for Shaw Pipe Protection starting in Regina, SK; transferred to Melbourne, Australia and back to Edmonton, AB. He travelled the world as Head of Operations and retired after 44 years. Cal and Helen spent more time at their Cabin with their grandkids, boating, water-skiing, tubing and with friends. Life at the lake looked good on him and he always had time for a story or two. He loved classic cars, Snowmobiling, reading, and seemed to always have a toothpick in his mouth.
The Celebration of Cal’s life will be held on Saturday, November 19th at 1 PM at Hainstock's Funeral & Crematorium: 9810-34 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB, lunch to follow. For those far away or who ARE NOT feeling well, you can view the service by copy and pasting the following link into your browser:
